Routine Wellness and Preventive Health Care

Preventing illness is far better than treating it!
Complete physical examinations are important in keeping pets happy and healthy. We recommend regular physical examinations to identify current or potential health problems and to ensure your pet’s well being. Our staff veterinarian will discuss with you your pet’s full medical history as your pet receives a complete physical exam. Vaccination recommendations are tailored to your individual pet’s lifestyle. Protective vaccine titer testing as a vaccination alternative is also available. Regular heartworm and parasite testing and prevention is recommended to all pets. Semi-annual exams are recommended for senior pets (7 years or older) as well as routine blood screenings to detect early signs of disease. Due to advances in veterinary medicine, many medical problems can be diagnosed and managed provided the disease is detected early. It is important to remember that pets age faster than people and regular veterinary care is critical in ensuring a long healthy life!

Surgical Services

Surgical procedures range from the routine, such as spays and neuters, to the more advanced procedures. These may vary widely from wound and trauma skin mass removal to exploratory surgery to remove an intestine obstruction caused by a foreign body or possible cancer surgery. Our facility is state of the art. We take special pride in utilizing the most advanced surgical monitoring equipment. Our anesthetized patients benefit from continuous multi-parameter vital sign monitoring, including EKG's, blood pressure and pulse oximetry while using the safest anesthesia available. All patients are examined prior to anesthesia and receive pre-operative blood testing as needed. Pain medication is administered prior to and following the procedure. Our goal is to fulfill your pet’s surgical needs with skill and compassion, minimizing the risk to your pet.

Radiology

The Animal Hospital of Saddle River offers on-site radiology services. Our radiology department provides an essential diagnostic tool in it’s ability to “visualize” such things as foreign objects within your pet’s gastrointestinal gut, evaluate the condition of many internal organs, including heart and lung conditions, bone abnormalities including fractures as well as various cancers.

Ultrasonography

We also offer on-site ultrasonography to evaluate certain health conditions which cannot be identified by blood testing or x-rays. Ultrasonography may also prevent the need for more invasive diagnostics, such as exploratory surgery. The ultrasound examinations are performed by a ultrasound internist veterinarian specialist and with our staff veterinarian.

Dentistry

Dental care is important in keeping your pet’s heart, kidneys and liver healthy. During your pet’s annual exam an evaluation will be performed of your pets teeth and gums for possible signs of disease. Over 80% of pets show signs of periodontal disease by the age of 3. We offer routine dental care including full dental examinations, ultrasonic scaling and polishing. We perform surgical tooth extractions when dental disease is advanced. We also provide recommendations for at home dental health management.

Microchip Implantation

The Animal Hospital of Saddle River can implant a small microchip in your pet to permanently identify your pet in case they are ever lost or missing. This is important in cats as well since most indoor cats do not wear identification and can easily sneak outside. Conventional pet collars can also be lost or “break away”. Please call us for more information about this valuable service.

Medical Care & Hospitalization

When illness in your pet occurs, our experienced staff will provide you pet’s necessary care with compassion as well as clinical excellence. With the aid of thorough medical history, physical examination and advanced diagnostic techniques, we will diagnose your pet’s health problem so that appropriate medical treatment can begin to return your pet to the path of wellness. We offer out-patient services, and when more serious health issues dictate, in-hospital care in our state of the art facility. Our veterinarians and staff encourage close client communication during this stressful time. We take pride in our comprehensive medical services and strive to work effortlessly to restore your pet’s health and so that you and your pet may share a long and happy life together.
